Jordanian arrested for assaulting wife

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have arrested a Jordanian in Davao City for beating up his Filipina wife and working in the country without a permit.

In his report to Commissioner Jaime H Morente, BI intelligence chief Fortunato S. Manahan Jr. said 39-year-old Kamal Isam Kamal Abu Beih was arrested last Aug. 9 by operatives from the bureau’s Mindanao Intelligence Task Group (MITG).

Manahan said the BI head  issued a mission order for Abu Beih’s arrest after his estranged wife complained that her philandering husband physically assaulted her two months ago.

“She narrated that her husband continued to threaten and harass her at the police headquarters where she filed a complaint and reported the incident,” Manahan said.

“He will be deported because we cannot allow undesirable aliens to physically harm and trample on the dignity of our Filipino women,” he added.

The Jordanian was also engaged in gainful activity without the proper visa as it was found that he owned and operated a shawarma business at the Roxas night market in the city.

The couple’s relationship turned sour after the Jordanian left his wife, with whom she is legally married since 2007, to live with another woman.

The victim allegedly recounted that her husband physically attacked her during a heated argument in their house last June 27 and that in the presence of their minor children he strangled and almost choked her to death.

She also alleged that her husband slammed her to the sliding door, banged her head and slapped her several times.

Even when they were already at the police station, the man continued to threaten her, disrespecting the police officers who investigated the incident. (Jun Ramirez)
