Gilas Pilipinas is scheduled to take on Australian club Adelaide 36ers in a pair of tune-up matches aimed at improving relations between the two countries following last year’s infamous brawl in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.
Team manager Gabby Cui confirmed the staging of the two-game series set Aug. 23 and 25 at the Meralco Gym, a few days before Gilas leaves for Foshan, China for the World Cup.
The games should give Gilas coach Yeng Guiao a last-minute opportunity to fine-tune his team before facing Serbia, Italy and Angola in Group D of FIBA’s centerpiece competition.
“Should be good preparation for us considering that the 36ers are a good team with tall and experienced players,” Cui said.
