Centro Escolar University expects stiff competition from the rest of the field despite labeled as one of the teams to beat in the PBA D-League second conference which starts July 25 at the Paco Arena in Manila.
The Scorpions impressed everyone in the previous conference by settling for a runner-up finish behind champion Cignal-Ateneo despite being reduced to eight players during their playoff run.
While the absence of Ateneo and other fancied collegiate teams due to ongoing NCAA season and the upcoming UAAP campaign in September has opened the door for CEU to finally win it all, assistant coach Gabby Velasco does not see it that way.
“We look at everybody as contenders,” Velasco said during Tuesday’s PSA Forum at Amelie Hotel in Manila.
