STILL AROUND – Gerald Sibayan and Ai-Ai de las Alas tendered a thanksgiving party for friends from the press… which also served as advanced celebration of their Dec. 12 wedding. In Ai-Ai’s words, “Through the years in my showbiz life you were with me. We had our ups and downs, misunderstandings here and there. But in the end, we are still around.
More than writers you are all my friends.”
Very well said, Ai-Ai dear, Martina Eileen offcam.
Ai-Ai is confident that this time around, Gerald will be her forever.
CELEBRATION – The thanksgiving party, as earlier noted, is an advanced celebration of their Dec. 12 wedding. Ai-Ai can’t possibly invite all her friends from the press and so for them she hosted a most enjoyable gathering.
Gerald and Ai-Ai even had a cake-cutting and kissing “ceremony”… as if they were already just married.
There were magic show, raffle, and parlor game…turning three writers into “brides” by using only white tissues.
Highspeed wishes Gerald and Ai-Ai the best of everything.
ANOTHER WORD OF THE YEAR – Some issues back, Highspeed wrote that “fakenews” is the word of the year, according to Collins dictionary.
There’s another word of the year, this time “complicit” – as chosen by Dictionary.com “This year a conversation that keeps on surfacing is what exactly it means to be complicit,” lexicographer Jane Solomon noted. “Complicit has sprung up in conversations about those who speak out against powerful figure in institutions, and those who stay silent.”
Ivanka Trump, the US President’s daughter and summa cum laude graduate of University of Pennsylvannia’s Wharton School of business is said to be “beautiful. powerful, complicit.
(This columnist had earlier “chosen” two local words of the year: “petmalu” and “lodi.” Both have positive meanings.
“Petmalu” as in awesome, admirable…not vicious or cruel as the root word “malupit” suggests. “Lodi” is idol…as in FPJ and Coco Martin.)
