‘BUBBLE GANG’ UNVEILS MUSICAL PLAY: Few TV shows can run as long as 22 years on air. Thus far, we can only think of “Superstar,” the weekly musical-variety show hosted by Nora Aunor on now-defunct RPN-9 which ran for 22 years.

Now comes “Bubble Gang,” headlined by writer-comedian Michael V. which this month celebrates its 22nd year on air.

The Friday late-night gag show has changed hands over the years, leaving Michael as the last man standing. Aside from being its main star, Michael is also the show’s creative director.

He says he never runs out of material to gag about as he observes people, read or watch the news. “Bubble Gang” has a team of researchers, people who walk the streets, talk to ordinary people to find out what makes them tick, or what makes them laugh.

“What are their cheap thrills? We want to know them,” the durable comedian told a recent press conference.

INSPIRED BY RAK OF AEGIS: Michael admits that in creating a musical play celebrating BG’s 22nd, he was inspired by hit musical “Rak of Aegis.” He thought of using songs made popular by Parokya ni Edgar, like “Buloy” and …

The entire show will feature 10 songs by Parokya.

“We wanted to use more hits by the group, but they didn’t fit our storyline,” he said.

“Parokya Beinte Dos: A Love Story” tells the story of Buloy (Michael V), a diehard fan who builds his dreams around a popular actress, Birdie (Kim Domingo). He goes through countless adventures to realize his life-long dream to become her leading man on and off screen.

The “Bubble Gang” cast has been in rehearsal and preparation for this musical play the past three months. Like a regular theatrical presentation, they have gone through readings, rehearsals, dance lessons.

Valeen Montenegro remarked, “Feeling ko, taga-teatro na ako ngayon.”

“Bubble Gang” has a cast of 26 actors, a merry mix of newcomers and veterans, including Paolo Contis, Antonio Aquitania, Chariz Solomon, Boy2 Quizon, SefCadayona.

The rest of the cast: Kim Domingo, Valeen Montenegro, Jackie Rice, Denise Barbacena, Lovely Abella, Sef Cadayona, Betong Sumaya, Mikael Daez, Arra San Agustin, Jak Roberto, Archie Alemana, Arny Ross, Mikoy Morales, Ashley Rivera, Analyn Barro, Juancho Trivino, Jan Manual, James Macasero, Rodfil Obeso, Myka Flores, Diego Llorico.

The show’s anniversary presentation will air on Nov. 17 and 24 after “My Korean Jagiya” on GMA.
