Village councilwoman slain after quarantine duty

BINAN CITY, Laguna – A barangay councilwoman was shot dead Sunday morning by a gunman while riding her motorcycle on her way home from duty at their village checkpoint in Barangay De La Paz in this city.

Melody Quijano, 39, a barangay kagawad of Dela Paz was declared dead on arrival at a hospital here.

According to Biñan City police, the victim was riding her motorcycle on way home and upon reaching a road hump, the suspect appeared and shot her several times around 1:55 a.m.

The suspect then fled to the dark alley of the place.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Danilo Mendoza, chief of police of Biñan City, said authorities are looking into three angles in the killing. First is the victim’s loan business, then her works as a barangay frontliner, and third is her active campaign against illegal drugs in the barangay.
