La Union barangay councilor fatally shot

gun bullet gettyCAMP DIEGO SILANG, San Fernando City, La Union – A 40-year-old barangay councilor was shot dead last Wednesday in Bauang, this province.

Police Lt. Col. Silverio Ordinado, spokesperson of the La Union police provincial office, identified the victim as Noel Gallardo, chairman of Barangay Pagdalagan Sur, Bauang and concurrent president of the Association of Barangay Chairman and ex-officio councilor of the municipality south of this city.

Police investigation showed that the victim was playing e-games in an online casino in a resort in Barangay Baccuit Sur at around 7 p.m. when a man who was later identified as Jeffrey Escobal, 40, of Barangay Aurora, Alicia, Isabela, appeared.

Escobal drew a .45 caliber pistol and opened fire at the victim several times in the face. The victim was taken to the hospital where he died while the suspect escaped.

Police are thoroughly investigating the crime and pursuing the suspect. (Freddie Lazaro and Erwin Beleo)
