Manila, Philippines – Prosecutor General Claro Arellano ordered yesterday the City Prosecutor of Taguig City to turn over to the Department of Justice (DoJ) the rape complaint filed by model Deniece Cornejo against television host and comedian Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro last week.
In his order issued on Monday, Arellano wanted the case records of “Deniece Millente Cornejo vs. Ferdinand ‘Vhong’ Navarro” for Rape by Sexual Assault be transmitted to the DoJ so that it will be able to start the preliminary investigation (PI) as soon as possible.
“Considering that the complaints set forth below arose from one and the same incident, founded on the same factual and legal issues and involving the same parties, the case is hereby ordered consolidated with the case entitled ‘Ferdinand Navarro Y Hipolito vs. Deniece Cornejo,” the order read.
Last January 30, the camp of Cornejo filed her 10-page complaint affidavit with Taguig City Assistant Prosecutor Laarni Fabella against Navarro, painting her as an anguished victim of sexual assault.
The NBI on Tuesday filed with the DoJ a string of charges against Cornejo, Lee, his sister Bernice, one Ferdinand Guerrero, Zimmer Rance, and a certain Mike in connection with the beating of Navarro.
The charges include the non-bailable offense of serious illegal detention, as well as serious physical injury, unlawful arrest and grave coercion, among others. (Leonard D. Postrado)
