Manila, Philippines – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is hiring an additional 6,000 lawyers and Certified Public Accountants (CPA) to boost its tax collection campaign and hit the estimated P1.3-trillion target for the year. This was disclosed yesterday by BIR Commissioner Kim S. Jacinto-Henares as the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved the bureau’s rationalization plan.
Henares said graduates of commerce courses with at least 18 units in accounting may also apply as collection officers to be assigned in the provinces.
The recruitment program will increase the personnel complement of the bureau from 12,000 to 18,000.
Under the plan, the BIR will detail one collection officer per town or municipality to maximize the collection of taxes in the countryside. (Jun Ramirez)
