A veteran broadcaster and youth leader is now a university president. Dr. Cesar B. Chavez, a multi-awarded broadcast journalist, is now president of the University of Caloocan City at the same time chief of the Caloocan City planning department.
My friend Cesar, who holds a doctorate in philosophy (Ph.D), has very colorful credentials in broadcast journalism, having won major awards of the Rotary Club of Manila, Philippine Jaycees, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, and the Catholic Mass Media Awards.
Dr. Chavez was a multi-awarded student from high school to college. In his professional life, he has a distinction of having consistently received presidential appointments from President Cory Aquino to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The youthful university executive was a recipient of US President Ronald Reagan Youth Initiative Program under which he participated in various training seminars and lectures in ten (10) colleges and universities in the United States in 1987.
As university president, Dr. Chavez has started to rally key leaders of colleges, universities and other educational institutions as well as local governments to take an active role in introducing new visions for institutions of higher learning.
While serving the local government of Caloocan City, Cesar still maintains a regular radio program every Saturday at DZRH, where he used to be a top ranking MBC executive.
