Zambo university exec shot

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two motorcycle-riding gunmen shot and wounded a senior university official in this city last Friday night.

Chief Insp. Elmer Acuña, Tetuan Police Station Office director, identified the wounded official as Maria Victoria Cabanes Montano, 49, executive assistant of Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) president Fr. Karel San Juan S.J.

Acuña said Montano was shot near her residence at Saavedra Subdivision on Atilano St. in Tetuan.

Montano sustained a bullet wound in the arm and was taken to the Zamboanga Doctors Hospital for treatment, according to Acuña.

Acuña said Montano was driving her Isuzu Sportivo SUV with her son aboard on their way home when two men on a motorcycle appeared from behind and opened fire at them around 6:30 p.m.

Montano told police probers that the motorcycle backrider shot her several times with a 9mm pistol, but she was able to drive her vehicle away from the attackers. (Nonoy E. Lacson)
