Police raided more than 50 marijuana plantations sites in three towns of Benguet, resulting in the confiscation of some P55 million worth of marijuana plants.
Supt. Davy Vicente Limmong, spokesman of the Cordillera Administrative region police, said all the marijuana plants were uprooted and later burned on site, adding that the operation started on December 12.
“This was a result of a four-day operation covering three municipalities of Benguet,” said Limmong.
He said the P54.5 million worth of marijuana is composed of 203,650 pieces fully grown marijuana plants, 1,520 pieces of marijuana seedlings planted in a total land area of 40,730 square meters.
Limmong said 17 kilos of dried marijuana leaves, 106 kilos of marijuana stalks and five kilos marijuana were also seized and destroyed.
In Sitio Bayog, Barangay Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet, six marijuana plantation sites with an estimated land area of 12,500 square meters were discovered planted with 62,500 fully grown marijuana plants.
In Barangay Badeo, Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet, 18 marijuana plantation sites with an estimated land area of 5,370 square meters planted with 26,850 pieces fully grown marijuana plants and 12 kilos dried marijuana leaves were discovered.
In Sitio Payakpak, Barangay Badeo, Kibungan, Benguet, a minor was caught in the act of harvesting marijuana plants and was later turned over to the Kibungan municipal social welfare and development office.
Aside from the arrest, five marijuana plantation sites with an estimated land area of 3,040 square meters planted with 12,500 fully grown marijuana plants, 40 kilos dried marijuana stalks and three kilos of marijuana seeds were discovered.
The operating teams uprooted and burned on site all marijuana plants, seedlings, seeds and dried marijuana leaves that were found and only representation were brought to Benguet PPO (Provincial Police Office) for evidentiary purposes,” said Limmong.
