Aquino cites Armed Forces

Manila, Philippines – President Aquino lauded the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) yesterday for its achievements under his administration, expressing confidence that the Filipino people can continue to depend on the AFP on whatever challenges the country would have to face.

Aquino, speaking at the 78th founding anniversary of the AFP in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, lauded the men and women who comprise the Armed Forces, saying that now is the time to stand proud for the honor they bring to the country.

He said that with the achievements of the AFP, he is also proud to be the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Aquino, meanwhile, lauded the AFP for standing by the country through the challenges it faced this year, including the Zamboanga siege, and to the AFP’s immediate response to provide relief efforts in earthquake-stricken Bohol and typhoon-affected Eastern Visayas.

“Pinatunayan ninyo sa buong mundo na gaano man kalaking hamon ang idulot ng mga mapagsamantala at ng mga dumarating na sakuna, anumang banta o peligro, gaano man kalayo at kaliblib na pook, basta’t tumbasan lamang ng tapang at dedikasyong tumulong, maaaruga at makakabangon ang mga Pilipino,” Aquino said.

He said the government is aware of the efforts of the AFP as he assured that the modernization of the Armed Forces continues.

Aquino cited that the AFP now has three C-130s and there are two more coming while there are now two warships – the BRP Gregorio del Pilar and BRP Ramon Alcaraz.

The AFP is also awaiting brand new naval helicopters bought for P1.33 billion, he said.
