Manila, Philippines – A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in Taguig City, police said.
Her body was found Friday night in a ricefield in Taguig, a police officer said.
Chief Inspector Edna Catilogo, chief of the Taguig City Police Station-Women and Children’s Protection Desk, said the body of the victim was found at 9 p.m. in Pulong Kendi, Barangay Santa Ana.
Catilogo said the victim reportedly bore a wound in her neck. There was also an indication that the victim was raped as her underwear was down to her feet.
She said that a suspect in the rape-slay, identified only as one “Mario,” 33, and residing in Bagong Sikat, Barangay Santa Ana, Taguig, was arrested at 11 p.m. Friday during a follow-up operation.
Initial investigation disclosed that prior to the incident, the girl was asked by her mother to go to a nearby store and buy diaper at 7 p.m. Friday.
However, the victim failed to return home, prompting her mother to ask the assistance of barangay watchmen from Barangay Santa Ana in finding her daughter.
More than one hour later, a barangay watchman found the body of the girl in the ricefield.
“Pinabili siya ng diaper ng kanyang ina pero 30 minutes na nakakalipas, hindi pa siya nakauwi,” Catilogo said.
“Doon na siya humingi ng tulong sa mga tanod ng Barangay Santa Ana. At mga bandang 9 p.m., nakita ang kanyang katawan,” she said.
Catilogo said rape with homicide case is being readied against the suspect. “Iniimbestigahan pa rin natin ang kaso,” she said. (Francis T. Wakefield)
