Manila, Philippines – Ahead of the New Year revelry, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started road improvement and maintenance works along Manila North Road and road sections in Tarlac, Pangasinan, and La Union.
DPWH advised motorists to expect again traffic buildup with the repairs of Manila North Road and Tarlac-Pangasinan (Carmen) boundary to Pangasinan-La Union (Sison) section.
The repair, which started December 27, is scheduled to last until January 6, Monday, the DPWH said in a traffic advisory.
According to DPWH, motorists have to take alternate routes to avoid the monstrous traffic jams such as Carmen-Rosales-Santa Maria-Asingan-Binalonan, Binalonan-Laoac-Pozorrubio, and Manila Road Junction-Guiling-Rosales Poblacion.
For light vehicles only, DPWH suggested Urdaneta-Manaoag-San Jacinto-San Fabian-Damortis Junction and Binalonan-Laoac- Manaoag-San Jacinto-San Fabian-Damortis Junction, both in La Union.
“The motoring public is further advised to avoid overtaking or counterflowing at these chokepoints and on approaching stationary vehicles queues,” DPWH said.
Traffic in Metro Manila and nearby provinces is at its worst during the holidays, with the Christmas rush and last minute preparations of the public for the New Year revelry. (Raymund F. Antonio)
