Manila, Philippines – A lady pawnshop employee was shot dead yesterday by two motorcycle-riding robbers in Makati City.
Chief Inspector Reycon Garduque, head of the Makati Police Criminal Investigation Division, said the victim, Raquel Ricafuente, an employee of Tambunting Pawnshop, was about to deposit in a bank the pawnshop’s collection when the robbers shot her in the back of the head with the use of a .45-caliber pistol.
The incident occurred while the victim was walking on the way to bank, about 300 to 500 meters away from the pawnshop on Dian Street in Barangay Palanan, Makati City, around 11 a.m.
He said the victim was carrying the establishment’s collection amounting to P400,000 when two men wearing helmets attacked her.
“She was carrying a slip that showed she has P400,000 to deposit,” Garduque said. Ricafuente was shot at close range when she refused to surrender the money and scuffled with the robbers, police said.
As of press time, police could not determine if the robbers were able to take a part of the loot as the money scattered on the road as a result of the scuffle. (Anna Liza Villas-Alavaren)
