Manila, Philippines – The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) has called on the communist rebels to be instruments of peace and be faithful to the ceasefire in the spirit of Christmas.
“We call on the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) to be faithful to the spirit and letter of the ceasefire that they have declared and to respect the prolonged ceasefire declared by our Government. As well, we echo the public clamor for a just and lasting peace,” the OPAPP said in a statement.
“We challenge those who carry arms in the name of the people to become instruments of peace,” it added.
The OPAPP said the Christmas truce enables the soldiers and rebels to celebrate Christmas with their families, noting that the country has been through many man-made and natural disasters this year. (Madel Sabater – Namit)
