Celebration of Christmas is approaching

Since the celebration of Christmas is approaching, the focus of the liturgical readings is on the coming of the Messiah that happened more than 2,000 years ago. Nativity of Jesus ChristThis preparation for the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord is filled with gladness and eager anticipation for the birth of Jesus brings so much hope during His time but even to us today.

The prophet Isaiah foretells how the Lord will come: The Lord Himself will give you this sign: The virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall name Him Emmanuel” (Is 7:14). This is a reason for the chosen people to have hope for the Lord will truly fulfill His promise.

The Lord once more brings hope to the people by assuring Joseph that he should not be afraid for God will take care of everything: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife” (Mt 1:20). God told Joseph: “You must name Him Jesus, because He is the One who is to save His people from their sins” (Mt 1:21). This is enough reason for the people to hope in the Lord. He comes to save His people!

As new people of God, we are filled with hope for we believe that the Lord is true to His promises. He has never forsaken His people in the past; we are sure that God will never abandon us. Indeed, as Saint Paul says, “nothing can separate us from the love of God.” Therefore, we continue to be a people of hope, a people who put our trust in the Lord.

The celebration of Christmas is fast approaching. May we always remember that this celebration reminds is of the faithfulness of a God who loves His people with a never-ending love. May we always have faith in Him and hope in His merciful love. MAY GOD BLESS US ALL!
