Manila, Philippines – A man, who was arrested after he shot and critically wounded a 17-year-old girl during a traffic altercation in Quezon City, was identified as the same person who shot a policeman in another road rage incident last October.
Chief Inspector Edilberto Nicanor, Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) deputy chief, identified the arrested suspect as Jayson Bitago, 28, of Pingkian 1, Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City.
Nicanor said that Bitago was positively identified by a witness as the same man who shot and wounded SPO3 Renato Corado, 51, on the night of October 20 along Pugong Ginto St. in Barangay Sta. Monica, Novaliches, Quezon City. At that time, Bitago was residing in Barangay Sta. Monica.
Police said Corado was with his wife while driving his Toyota Corolla (TRA-276) when the suspect riding a motorcycle shot him in the back.
It was learned that Bitago got angry after his motorcycle was blocked by Corado’s car. The suspect quickly fled after the shooting.
Bitago was arrested last Monday morning in Quezon City after he shot and wounded tricycle passenger Rochelle Tabuzo following an altercation with the driver of the trike. Tabuzo, who works as a maid, remains in critical condition at the Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH), according to police.
The incident took place at around 7 a.m. Monday in front of the Puregold Supermarket in Sangdaan.
Fortunately, SPO1 Roy Villareal, who was passing by the area aboard his motorcycle, chased and arrested the fleeing suspect. (Jeffrey G. Damicog)
