Manila, Philippines – An official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is willing to act as mediator between feuding Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who are currently engaged in a word war.
CBCP Public Affairs Committee chairman Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, however, stressed that he will only mediate if asked to do so by the concerned parties.
“I’m willing if they’ll ask for my help, but I won’t initiate,” he said in an interview. “The problem is they might not be willing (to talk) also,” Pabillo added.
Senator Enrile was among the lawmakers who joined the Church in opposing the passage of the controversial Reproductive Health bill while Senator Santiago came to the defense of the Church at the height of the “Pajero Bishops” issue in 2011. (Leslie Ann G. Aquino)
