Manila, Philippines – Why is PNoy so afraid of a sickly 66-year-old woman?
Former first gentleman Mike Arroyo posted this status on his Facebook account after the Philippine National Police issued new guidelines barring him from sleeping at the hospital suite of his wife, former president and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City.
The release of the new PNP protocol came on the heels of reports that opposition and administration congressmen have strongly backed a resolution appealing for a Christmas furlough for the former chief of staff.
It also appeared to have given credence to the grievance aired by Arroyo backers who claim that PNP impose restrictive security measures every time news about her and her case are carried by the media.
Mr. Arroyo has not been prevented to join his ailing wife in the hospital until after House Resolution No. 537 was filed and has started to snowball in the Lower Chamber. “The PNP protocol issued new guidelines. Whereas, before I could sleep there with FPGMA , now , I no longer can,” stated Arroyo.
“This is very oppressive to our family. My ailing wife needs my company to comfort her. She is only a detainee (on baseless charges), not a convicted felon,” the post stated. He added: “Why is PNoy so afraid of a sickly 66-year-old woman? Why so oppressive? Why so vindictive? Why?”
Reacting to the new security restrictions, !BAP Partylist Rep. Silvestre Bello III stated: “Tao rin naman ang mga iyan, may tinatawag na karma sa buhay.” Bello said HR 537 which urges the Sandiganbayan to grant Arroyo a Christmas furlough does not contain “any legal demand or a legal claim.” (Ben R.
