Miriam charges Enrile

Sen Miriam Santiago

Manila, Philippines – Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago formally asked Senate President Franklin M. Drilon yesterday to finally organize the Senate Ethics Committee after she filed a complaint of disorderly behavior against Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile.

Miriam filed the complaint against Enrile with the Senate Rules Committee chaired by Sen. Alan Peter S. Cayetano.

The complaint was triggered, according to Miriam, by the “personal attacks’’ against her by Enrile in his November 27 privilege speech after she charged, among others, that the 89-year-legislator was the brains behind the P10-billion “pork barrel” scam and gave P40 million to finance the failed Zamboanga City siege by the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).

She, last December 4, also delivered a privilege speech entitled “Navigating the Crime of Plunder Mastermind.’’

Miriam also accused Enrile, Defense Minister during the Martial Law years, with having his hands stained with the blood of some 4,000 persons summarily executed during the Marcos regime. (Mario B. Casayuran)
