Fake bills circulating in Cavite

IMUS, Cavite – Fake P1,000 and P500 bills continued to circulate in Cavite province.

This was proven yesterday with the arrest by police of a man and a woman who were found possessing alleged counterfeit P1,000 and P500 bills after they reportedly gypped a store operator with a fake bill in upland Silang municipality.

The two suspects were identified as Jose Leo Culasino Bernardez, 38, a resident of San Isidro Labrador, Dasmariñas City, Cavite, and Kristine Fajardo Fernadez, 29, of Block 148, Lot 42, Purok 2, Bicutan, Taguig City, Metro Manila.

With the arrest of the suspects, the Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) reminded anew the citizens, particularly business operators, about the circulation of counterfeit bills which is prevalent in the area during the Christmas season.

Both Bernardez and Fernadez were nabbed in a chase by Tagaytay police patrolmen Richard D. Trinidad and Jestoni P. Dacalaño whose assistance were sought by a woman store owner in Barangay Buho, Silang.

In her complaint, the woman said that the two suspects paid a fake bill in exchange for groceries that they bought from her store last Monday. (Anthony Giron)
