Manila, Philippines – Typhoon “Danas” (international name) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) yesterday and was named “Ramil.”
Ramil is the first tropical cyclone to visit the country this month and the 18th for this year.
PAGASA expects two to three tropical cyclones to enter or develop inside the Philippines this month.
Weather forecaster Joey Figuracion said that Ramil entered the PAR at around 2 p.m. yesterday.
Figuracion said that as of 4 p.m. yesterday, Ramil was located based on all available data at 1,170 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph, moving northwest at 26 kph.
Ramil is expected to be 800 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes or outside the PAR this afternoon.
Figuracion said that just like typhoon “Quedan,” Ramil will also have no direct effect in any part of the country since it remains too far from the Philippines’ landmass.
He also said no public storm warning signals were raised since Ramil was too far to directly affect any part of the country. (PNA and Chito A. Chavez)
