At least 14 earthquakes jolted Marinduque that started Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs).
Ishmael Narag, officer-in-charge of the earthquake monitoring division of the agency, said the quakes are called “earthquake swarms.” They “are events where a local area experiences sequences of many earthquakes striking in a relatively short period of time.”
“Swarm of events ‘yung nangyari sa Marinduque we don’t expect aftershocks pero sunod-sunod ‘yung events in time at same location,” Narag explained.
Phivolcs said the first tremor struck Boac at 6:33 p.m. Saturday with a magnitude of 4.5. The epicenter was traced 29 kilometers northwest of Boac. The quake had a depth of 32 kilometers.
The agency said Intensity 3 was felt in Batangas City and Boac while it was Intensity 1 in Tagaytay City. (PNA)
