NPA member surrenders

LAGAWE, Ifugao – A 22-year-old member of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered last week to government authorities due to the hardships he experienced while living with the insurgents.

Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, Ifugao provincial police director, said Babino Bantulay Mammay, aka Denver, a resident of Sitio Lagan, Cawayan, Asipulo, yielded to the government troops who were conducting a Comelec checkpoint at Sitio Bahag, Antipolo, Asipulo, last October 21.

Casimiro said Mammay immediately underwent a debriefi ng. He told the police that he decided to surrender because he could no longer bear the diffi cult life of being an outlaw.

“Mahirap maging NPA, walang direksyon ang buhay,” Casimiro quoted Mammay as saying. (Zaldy Comanda)
