10 die from leptospirosis

OLONGAPO CITY – At least 10 leptospirosis deaths were registered with the infection of the bacteria increased to more than 450 in almost three weeks after a massive flooding hit this city.

Medical practitioners here are working round the clock to help cure leptospirosis victims from various hospitals in the city.

The Philippine Red Cross has already set up a tent outside the James L Gordon Memorial Hospital (JLGMH) to house patients who were not admitted to the hospital wards due to overcrowding.

The JLGMH has already used its lobbies and walkways as wards for the increasing number of leptospirosis patients here.

Meanwhile, the Zambales Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) said that the province experienced heavy rains with strong gusty winds yesterday morning.

Eight towns are currently without electricity, namely: Sta. Cruz; Candelaria; Masinloc; Palauig; Iba; Botolan; Cabangan; and San Felipe.

National roads in Tampo, Porac and Botolan are not passable to all types of vehicles due to fallen trees blocking the roads. (Jonas Reyes)
