Slaughterhouses closed

CEBU CITY – The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) of the Cebu City Government has recommended the closure of two slaughterhouses for failure to comply with sanitary and operational procedures.

City Veterinarian Dr. Pilar Romero said the two slaughterhouses will be closed after inspectors discovered several violations in the said facilities.

The slaughterhouse in Barangay Tejero allegedly threw their waste materials into the river, which causes pollution and stench in the Tejero River. Another slaughterhouse, located near the Inayawan Landfill, will have to be shut down because of its proximity to the dump site, said Romero.

Romero stressed that the owners of the two slaughterhouses were given ample time to comply with the requirements of the Cebu City Government but they failed to do so. (Mars W. Mosqueda, Jr.)
