A single punch to the lower jaw killed a construction worker Sunday in Quezon City.
Inspector Elmer Monsalve, chief of the homicide investigation section of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), identified the victim as William Velozo, 27, of 11th St., Barangay Damayang Lagi, Quezon City.
As pieced together by barangay public safety officer (BPSO) Constancio Salem, the victim had an altercation with Robet Medel, a security guard of the Gold Cruz Security and Investigation Agency and posted on a vacant lot on 11th St. in Barangay Damayang Lagi.
Medel was armed with a shotgun when Velozo told the security guard, “Hindi ako lalaban sa iyo dahil may baril ka, kung gusto mo suntukan na lang tayo.”
The security guard handed the shotgun to Salem and dropped Velozo to the ground. He took back his shotgun and casually walked away to his post.
Jolly, the victim’s sister, rushed to the area after hearing what happened and brought his unconscious brother to the Delgado Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m.
Monsalve said barangay security officers did not lift a finger to arrest Medel, thinking that Velozo was still alive. By the time they learned of Velozo’s death, Medel was nowhere to be found.
