Landmine blast hurts 7 soldiers

 

Seven Army troopers, including one officer, were wounded in a landmine explosion in Compostela Valley province early Tuesday morning.

Information reaching the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio showed the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. at Sitio Lantawan, Barangay Napnapan, Pantukan, Compostella Valley.

A report from the police, on the other hand, identified those wounded as 1Lt. Gammad, Sgt, Nacion, Pfc. Dumagat, Pfc. Palmera, Pfc. Cabag, Pfc. Viron and Pfc. Yula, all members the Peace and Development Team (PDT) of the 104th Division Reconnaissance Company (DRC) under the supervision of 28th Infantry Battalion.

According to Army, the troops were conducting community security patrol in response to civilian reports on the presence of New People’s Army (NPA) insurgents in the area when the incident occurred.

The wounded soldiers have been evacuated to Camp Panacan Station Hospital in Davao City. (Elena L. Aben)
