GMA News TV’s awardwinning documentary program “Reel Time” and GMA News Online triumphed at the 10th Annual Lasallian Scholarum Awards held recently at Makati Shangri-La Hotel in Makati City.
Internationally-acclaimed documentary “Salat” aired on GMA News TV and a feature story published on GMA News Online reaped awards for their journalistic efforts on youth and education.
“Reel Time’s” winning entry “Salat,” a moving documentary on malnourished Filipino children, won as Outstanding Television Feature Story on Youth and Education. This is the documentary’s first local award, after taking home the illustrious Peabody award – the international broadcast media’s equivalent of a Pulitzer Prize, and a Silver World Medal at the prestigious New York Festivals last year.
GMA News Online clinched victory through the feature article, “Circus Science: Putting Big Ideas Under the Big Top,” an in-depth report on the importance of science and technology education in the Philippines. The said article was named Outstanding Online Feature Story on Youth and Education.
Guided by this year’s theme called “Voices that Matter,” LSA aims to recognize “game-changers in the field of journalism” and their “journalistic efforts geared towards scrutinizing important issues on the Filipino youth and education that propagate positive social change.”
