Activities related to the calls for abolition of the Pork Barrel system have prompted several schools in Metro Manila to announce suspension of classes and early dismissal of their students yesterday.
Due to “EDSA Tayo,” the second mass protest and a prayer vigil against the pork barrel system after the August 26 rally in Luneta Park in Manila, schools near the Epifanio De Los Santos Avenue (EDSA) have announced the suspension of classes in anticipation of heavy traffic brought about by the rally.
La Salle Green Hills announced suspension of classes for pre-school, grade school and high school, except for third year and 4th year students while St. Pedro Poveda College also announced the suspension of classes at all levels due to the scheduled protest rally.
Afternoon classes in some grade levels in Miriam College were also suspended and some students were also early dismissed. The event formally opened with the singing of the national anthem and an inter-faith convocation, speeches from the three universities’ administrators and performances. (Ina Hernando-Malipot)
