CANDON CITY – Health officials reported yesterday that chikungunya virus downed some 200 residents in a town in Ilocos Sur.
Dr. Edgar Rante, municipal health officer of Burgos, Ilocos Sur, confirmed that the residents were experiencing symptoms of chikungunya fever.
He said that the local government unit has already sought assistance from the Department of Health (DoH) to help sustain the medication of the patients and contain the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
Health experts said symptoms of chikungunya disease include skin rashes, pain in the lower back, joint pains with or without the presence of swelling, vomiting, nausea, headaches, chills, and fever. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
