Feast of 3 archangels

The Catholic Church commemorates today the feast of the three archangels who played an important role in the history of man’s salvation: Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.

At the National Shrine of Saints Michael and the Archangels in San Miguel, Manila, a concelebrated feast mass to be officiated by Fr. Frederick Simon will be held at 6 p.m.

A solemn procession bearing the images of the seven archangels and Mary Queen of the Angels will be held after the mass.

In Oas, Albay, the Himoloan Festival will be celebrated in honor of its patron, Saint Michael (San Miguel), while the HinAy Festival featuring a Mardi Gras, cultural show, agro-trade fair, food fest, and a beauty pageant will be held in Irosin, Sorsogon.

Festivities will also be held in the towns of Gandara, San Sebastian, and Basey in Samar, as well as in Iligan City.

Saint Michael, whose name means “who is like God,” was assigned to cast Lucifer out of heaven for challenging the sovereignty of God. He is invoked against the power of evil and temptations.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has recommended the revival of the Prayer to Saint Michael after the mass as a form of protection against calamities and corruption in government. (Christina I. Hermoso)
