The alleged leader of a notorious robbery/hold-up gang victimizing bus passengers was killed while two of his cohorts were arrested during a police operation in Mandaluyong City at 12 midnight yesterday.
Senior Supt. Florendo Quibuyen, chief of the Mandaluyong City Police Station, said the fatality, Jonathan Ecleo, reportedly leader of the robbery group, was declared dead on arrival at the Mandaluyong Medical Center.
Quibuyen said the suspect, a resident of Calbayog St., Mandaluyong City, sustained multiple bullet wounds after he engaged the anti-vice operatives of the Mandaluyong City Police Station led by SPO3 Ray Sedanto in a brief shootout along Boni Avenue corner Ortigas Extension in Barangay New Zaniga, Mandaluyong City.
Police identified the arrested suspects as Jesus Ecleo and Mariano Lim-it alias “Dudung”, both residents of Calbayog St., Mandaluyong City.
Police recovered from them two .38-caliber homemade revolvers with bullets, and a .32-caliber revolver with three fired cartridges and two live bullets, a balisong (fan knife), two cellphones and three backpacks with assorted clothes and shoes. (Francis T. Wakefield)
