PBA D-League draft

Notwithstanding last minute decisions by Café France and Cebuana Lhuilier, Chris Banchero remains the No.1 overall pick option when the PBA Developmental League holds its maiden Rookie Draft today.

Café France owns the top pick in the Draft, but ceded its option to land the 6-foot-1 Banchero when it opted to forge a tie-up with the basketball program of Centro Escolar University at the eleventh hour.

The No.2 selection belongs to Cebuana Lhuillier but the Gems announced that they have also forged a tie-up with the University of the East, thus, also passing up on its right to select in the first round.

The last-minute developments gave way for Boracay Rum to select first in the pool of 143 aspirants. The proceedings are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at the PBA Office in Libis, Quezon City.

Boracay Rum coach Lawrence Chongson claimed he couldn’t believe their luck and readily declared the Waves are set to make Banchero the first ever No.1 pick of the PBA D-League Rookie Draft.

“He’s definitely the top of his class kaya hindi namin sasayangin ang pagkakataong naipagkaloob sa amin,” said Chongson, who led Boracay Rum to a third place finish in last season’s Foundation Cup.

Big Chill picks next, followed by Blackwater Sports, Cagayan Valley, Hog’s Breath and Jumbo Plastic.
