World chess: RP rebounds

Jerad Docena and Jan Jodilyn Fronda recovered from a first day stumble by beating their respective rivals in Round 2 of the World Junior Chess Championships in Hatay, Turkey Sunday.

After losing to IM Andrey Stukopin (ELO 2522) of Russia, Docena (ELO 2227), from Tagubaas, Antequera, Bohol, downed Mert Kilic (ELO 1843) of Turkey in the boys division.

San Andres, Manila native Fronda, (ELO 2038), for her part, came back from a defeat to WGM Dinara Saduakassova (ELO 2326) of Kazakhstan by beating Shyngys Kyzy Aijarkyn (ELO 1780) of Kyrgyzstan in the girls division.

In the third round, Docena will meet IM Richard Wang (ELO 2430) of Canada while Fronda faces WGM Rout Padmini (ELO 2312) of India.
