President Aquino has signed Republic Act (RA) No. 10618 that establishes rural farm schools as an alternative to secondary education in the countryside.
The new law, also known as the “Rural Farm Schools Act,” was signed by Aquino last September 3.
“The State shall promote sustainable agricultural productivity and rural development by empowering the human capital in the countryside through access to avenues of learning suited to the needs and realities of the rural agricultural communities,” the law stated.
In the law, rural farm schools are now recognized as an alternative delivery mode of secondary education, focusing on agri-fisheries, designed to address the needs of children in rural, agricultural, or fishing communities. (Madel S. Namit)
