Gabriela Women’s party-list Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan denounced yesterday the allegedly “unreported” aerial bombings in Sagada by the military at suspected New People’s Army (NPA) lairs in the tourist-destination town in the Mountain Province.
Reports of aerial attacks were revealed by Pressenza, an international news agency, which also disclosed that clashes between a combined force of military and police units against NPA rebels started Thursday afternoon.
Information about the incident was disclosed by residents living near the bombed areas.
Sagada townsfolk assailed the clashes as they stressed that the popular tourist town has been declared a “peace zone.”
“We strongly denounce the aerial bombings employed by the PNP and the AFP in its counter-insurgency operations in Aguid, Sagada, Mountain Province,” declared Ilagan.
Ilagan supported Sagada folk in calling for an end to the bombings, saying that it has inﬂicted “immeasurable damage to indigenous people’s, communities, lives, and livelihood.” (Ben R. Rosario)
