Troops overrun NPA camp

Government troops overran a large encampment of communist rebels in Sagada, Mt. Province following a heavy gun battle that resulted in the wounding of two policemen. Taking the camp was a no easy task as air assault was needed to support the ground forces, said Supt. Davy Vicente Limmong, spokesman of the Cordillera Administrative Region.

“The camp is so important to them because they use it as a staging area for their tactical offensive,” said Limmong. Two of the big attacks were the ambush of police trainees that left one person dead in Tadian, Mt. Province and the ambush of the police commandos that left at least eight people dead in Cagayan province.

Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong, director of the Cordillera Administrative Region police, said the camp was well-equipped and suitable as a training field. He identified the two injured victims as PO1 Primo Marcelo and PO1 Romel Sagot. (Aaron Recuenco)
