PANDI, Bulacan – Mayor Enrico A. Roque here has sought a review of Bulacan’s waterways and drainage master plan to address the perennial flooding problem submerging the towns and cities in the province’s first district and spilling to neighboring areas.

Roque, president of the Bulacan Municipal Mayors’ League, said that there is a need to update the potential of the province’s waterways and further enhance their capabilities on preparedness, management, and response to calamities and emergencies.

He said he strongly supports the efforts of the provincial government in its flood control program like dredging and desilting of rivers and waterways, including the promotion of the province’s disaster resiliency.

“Since flood prone towns have been identified, all we need is to craft processes to address and reduce our vulnerability to environmental hazards,” Roque said.

He also enjoined all other mayors in 21 municipalities and three cities in the province to unite and take active stance in managing and mitigating environmental risks and cooperate with the capitol in addressing these concerns.

“It pains me to seek our “kababayans” being rescued from the roof of their flood-submerged houses and thousands others, especially children, drenched and shivering. And the aftermath of floods and typhoon is even more depressing considering the damages it caused to property and business,” he added.
