National Day of Malaysia today

Malaysia celebrates today its National Day, also known as Hari Merdeka. The theme for this year’s celebration is “My Sovereign Malaysia; My Native Land.”

Hari Merdeka commemorates the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule in 1957. On this day, parades, a royal procession, military demonstration, and cultural performances are held in the country. People usually gather at Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur where the main celebrations are held.

Malaysia and the Philippines enjoy strong bilateral relationships. They are founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). They are historically linked by centuries of cultural and people-to-people interaction. They are also good trading partners with close economic relations.

Malaysia is a member of various regional and international organizations, including the East Asia Summit, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, the Commonwealth of Nations, and the Non-aligned Movement.

We congratulate the people and government of Malaysia led by His Majesty, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, and Their Excellencies, Prime Minister Dato Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin bin Yassin, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Sri Anifah bin Haji Aman, and its Embassy in the Republic of the Philippines headed by H.E., Ambassador Dato’ Mohd Zamri bin Mohd Kassim, on the occasion of its National Day.
