Village chief slain

CAMP JUAN, Ilocos Norte – A village chairman was shot dead before dawn yesterday by a man armed with a .45-caliber pistol in Barangay 20, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.

Police said the victim, Randy Dipasupil, village chief of Barangay 21, Sarrat town, died on the spot during the incident that occurred at about 1:30 a.m.

Investigators gathered that the victim was driving his car on his way home from Laoag City when the unidentified gunman on board a Starex van shot him several times.

Dipasupil’s death happened two days after unidentified motorcycle-riding armed men killed former village chairman Amor Taclay and wounded his wife Madelyn in an ambush in Barangay Caraitan, Badoc town, Ilocos Norte.

Police said Taclay, former barangay chairman of Barangay Turod, Badoc, and his wife were on board their car on their way home when the suspects appeared from opposite direction and shot them. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
