The UAAP has scheduled Sept. 1 as a doubleheader featuring two highly-anticipated second round matches at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Based on the second round schedule released by the league yesterday, league-leader Far Eastern University battles University of Santo Tomas in the first game at 12 noon before archrivals La Salle and Ateneo figure in the other match at 4 p.m.
Tickets for both games will be sold separately and are expected to draw big money for the league, with FEU and UST finishing the first round at the top half of the standings and La Salle-Ateneo being a regular blockbuster encounter.
FEU completed a seven-game sweep of the first round behind MVP frontrunner Terrence Romeo while UST is in a three-way logjam with National University and University of the East for second at 4-3.
In their first round encounter last July 22, FEU defeated UST, 77-67, behind Romeo and backcourt partner RR Garcia.
La Salle and Ateneo are joined by Adamson in a three-way tie for fifth at 3-4. The Green Archers rallied to beat the Eagles, 82-73, in the first round last July 7.
Each game was witnessed by at least 15,000 spectators.
Second round hostilities begin on Aug. 14 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. La Salle and Adamson square off in the 2 p.m. curtain raiser before FEU and NU clash at 4 p.m.
A rare Thursday game has been scheduled on Aug. 15 at the Big Dome, with Ateneo taking on University of the Philippines and UST meeting UE.
The league closes its elimination round on Sept. 14. (Jonas Terrado)
