DepEd celebrates Nutrition Month

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday enjoined all schools, both public and private, nationwide to participate in the celebration of the 2013 Nutrition Month this July.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro, through DepEd Memo No. 67 series of 2013, issued to all Bureau directors, directors of services, centers and heads of units, regional directors, schools division/city superintendents, and heads of public and private elementary and secondary schools, urged all officials, teachers and students, to “participate in the celebration by undertaking meaningful activities which will highlight the importance of good health and nutrition.“

Every year, in the month of July, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) leads the entire country in the celebration of the Nutrition Month which aims to purposely disseminate nutrition messages to all Filipinos. This year, the theme for the Nutrition Month is “Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Samasama Nating Wakasan.“

Luistro said that the celebration aims to increase awareness on hunger issues and actions to mitigate hunger.

“This celebration also aims to encourage government agencies, non-government organizations, private sector, civil society organizations and communities to contribute in addressing hunger issues and advocate for stronger political action to end hunger,“ he added. (Ina Hernando-Malipot)
