2 cases of Chikungunya in Pangasinan

 

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan – Health officials here have confirmed two cases of chikungunya as dengue patients continue to increase in the pediatric ward of Region 1 Medical Center here.

Region 1 Medical Center spokesperson Dr. Mike Canto two patients admitted to the hospital tested positive for chikungunya on Wednesday after medical screening.

Canto said Chikungunya is a viral disease spread by mosquitoes, and symptoms include severe and persistent joint pain, body rashes, severe headache, and fever.

Canto believes that there are more cases of the mosquito-borne disease in the province.

Meanwhile, the number of dengue cases recorded from January to July 17, 2013 reached 350 with four deaths.

Just month, a total of 149 dengue patients, mostly children, were admitted to the R1MC. Two of them already died. (Liezle Basa Inigo )
