Superliga, V-League support each other

Games Tomorrow (Philsports Arena)
1 p.m. Opening Ceremonies
2 p.m. Cignal vs Petron
4 p.m. PLDT MyDSL vs Bingo Milyonaryo
6 p.m. Cagayan Valley vs Army

Philippine Superliga president Tats Suzara downplayed any rivalry with the Shakey’s V-League even as the upstart league fires off its maiden tournament tomorrow at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Suzara described that the Superliga and the V-League “complement each other“ owing to the different nature of the two leagues, particularly the former which is more intended for former collegiate players who are aspiring to suit up in a high-level club tournament.

“The V-League is for the universities and after the universities, (the players) go to the PSL,“ Suzara said during Thursday night’s press launch hosted by Solar Sports at the posh 7th High club in Bonifacio Global City.

“I haven’t talked with the VLeague organizers but I hope to talk to them in the future,“ added the boss of the league’s organizing arm Sportscore.

A three-game bill ushers in the Superliga’s invitational tournament that will last for three weeks.

The participating teams are Cagayan Valley, Philippine Army, Cignal, PLDT MyDSL, PCSO Bingo Milyonaryo and Petron.

Petron and Cignal open hostilities after the 1 p.m. opening ceremonies. The second game features PLDT and Bingo Milyonaryo before Cagayan Valley and Army clash in the nightcap.

The team captains of the six participating teams have labeled Cagayan and Army as favorites, due to their deep and experienced rosters.
