Melindo trains vs Estrada

Mexican champion Juan Francisco Estrada is turning up the heat in Hermosillo, while Filipino challenger Milan Melindo is doing the same thing in Cebu as they rev up for their July 27 clash in Macau.

Reports from Mexico say Estrada is already in the thick of training and he is not leaving any stone unturned in his bid to retain the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight titles.

“Estrada is training in the same place where some of Mexico’s great champions have trained,“ said Salvador Rodriguez, one of the top fight writers of Mexico.

Estrada is best remembered by Filipino fans as the rangy and durable puncher who knocked the WBO and WBA crowns off Brian Viloria’s head last April at the 15,000-seat CotaiArena in The Venetian where Chinese Olympic legend Zou Shiming made his professional debut.

Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum is staging Top Rank’s second show there with Shiming headlining the card and Arum is extremely confident that it’ll be another huge success as he primes up for the much-awaited comeback of Manny Pacquiao also at The Venetian on Nov. 24.

Melindo has also reported for camp at the ALA Boxing Club and is currently in the conditioning phase of his buildup.
