PDEA raids Legaspi drug den, 5 arrested

Five persons including a top drug personality were arrested as anti-narcotics authorities shut down the home of a barangay captain that was used as a drug den in Legaspi City.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr. said the raid was conducted at the house of Barangay Captain Donald Vargas located in Purok 3, Barangay 29, Sabang Legaspi City.

Cacdac said Vargas’ house has been used as a drug den where pot sessions and illegal drug transactions have taken place.

Though Vargas managed to escape, PDEA Regional Office 5 (PDEA RO5) under Director Archie Grande arrested during the operation that took place Monday afternoon five men identified as Eddanyl Vargas, 27; Edward Rellermo, 42; Ernesto Brojela, Jr., 38; Danilo Barranda, 52; and Mike Cota, 34.

Armed with search warrants, PDEA operatives also found in the house several transparent plastic sachets of shabu weighing approximately 14 grams as well as assorted drug paraphernalia.

Cacdac cited that Vargas was the alleged leader of the Vargas Drug Group operating in Legazpi City and the nearby province of Albay while Eddanyl was ranked number eight in the list of targeted drug personalities in the Bicol Region. (Jeffrey G. Damicog)
