COTABATO CITY, Philippines –The current administration’s campaign to scout and purge ‘ghost’ component or rotten eggs in the Department of EducationAutonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DepEd-ARMM) has gained headway with the recent dismissal from service of at least 20 bogus teachers.
Lawyer Jamar Kulayan, DepEdARMM secretary, said the Civil Service Commission (CSC) dropped the 20 workers from the service roll after its thorough investigations found them to have falsified their teaching credentials including their licensed to teach from the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC).
In earlier interviews, CSC regional officials had encouraged the submission to their office of complaints about erring government personnel “even from anonymous” tipsters.
Even President Aquino III had repeatedly cited alleged cases of ‘ghost’ teachers, schools and students in ARMM as one of the reasons he had to appoint officers-in-charge (OICs) in order to fix the bureaucracy of the region and put things in proper order.
According to earlier reports, teachers with fake credentials were the ones involved in some cases of anomalous appointments issued by local education officials in exchange of alleged bribes ranging from P50,000 to P150,000 from each unworthy applicant. (Ali G. Macabalang)
